Authorities have prepared an unusually large security and emergency operation because the event coincides with the height of Spain&#8217;s wildfire season and a period of intense summer heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Officials expect as many as <strong>six million people<\/strong> to gather across the eclipse route, while temperatures in some areas could reach around <strong>40\u00b0C<\/strong>. That combination of crowds, heat, dry vegetation and increased movement through rural areas has turned what would normally be a celebration of astronomy into a major public-safety challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Celestial Event Meets a Dangerous Fire Season<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eclipse is expected to pass across northern Spain, creating a rare opportunity for spectators to experience totality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But authorities are having to prepare for something far less spectacular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By Monday evening, major wildfires were already burning in <strong>Huelva, Segovia and Huesca<\/strong>. Around <strong>200,000 hectares<\/strong> had been scorched across Spain this year\u2014about six times the area burned by the same point in 2025, according to the country&#8217;s Environment Ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That makes the timing particularly uncomfortable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spain&#8217;s forest-fire experts describe this period as statistically one of the country&#8217;s most dangerous weeks for wildfires. Dry vegetation and extreme heat can allow even a small fire to spread rapidly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Six Million People Could Be Watching the Sky<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The eclipse is expected to turn parts of Spain&#8217;s rural interior into temporary viewing zones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Authorities have established around <strong>660 official observation sites<\/strong> to help manage the crowds.
